What is 'off the job' training?

Many employers have been concerned at the official requirements that apprentices must spend one-fifth of their employed time on "off-the-job" training in order to be considered part of the government’s Apprenticeship scheme.

When the apprentice has reached the required level, they pass through the gateway for their End-Point-Assessment.
